Two harmonic tones emanating from a Tibetan singing bowl were recorded and manipulated
in Decay.
How can modern 21st computer software create a sense of musicality that was unrealized in an object’s material form? “Decay” explores this question through its manipulation of the single strike of a Tibetan Singing Bowl.
The rich beauty of the singing bowl’s wavering harmonic note is digitally altered beyond recognition in “Decay”. The original use of the instrument, alongside its tone and timbre, is broken down to form a new instrument. It is a process of decay and renewal.
