[dis]location – new release by JD Lopez and Jason Kavanagh

A short sample from [dis]location, a new release by JD Lopez and Jason Kavanagh.

[dis]location is a collaborative work between myself and Jason Kavanagh (Scotland). The release celebrates the use of technology in manipulating field recordings, transplanting familiar sonic features into unfamiliar contexts. Through this process we explore the relationship between sound, source and subject.

[dis]location was composed using our own field recordings, made in a variety of natural, industrial and domestic environments. Drawing on our respective libraries, we created two original pieces (Side A) which were subsequently exchanged and remixed (Side B).

The intention behind the re-imaginings of our field recordings is to create a new environment for the modified sounds to inhabit whilst acknowledging the interpretative role of the listener in the production of sound.
