World Listening Day: Currawongs – 2’00”

The winds which passed over my dwelling were such as sweep over the ridges of mountains, bearing the broken strains, or celestial parts only, of terrestrial music. The morning wind forever blows, the poem of creation is uninterrupted; but few are the ears that hear it.
It was not so much within-doors as behind a door where I sat … for I suddenly found myself neighbour to the birds; not by having imprisoned one, but having caged myself near them.

From Walden by Henry David Thoreau, 1854.

    1. Thanks Jose – I had tried to record these birds, unsuccessfully, a few times. Then one morning a huge flock of them landed in the trees surrounding my house, for about 1 hour. They haven’t returned since then. I thought that their sound corresponded quite well with the quote from Thoreau.
