A pleasure which is common to all field recordists is the way in which the microphone amplifies life’s little-regarded moments; sounds and the objects that create them become magnified into significance. These two clips of beef-cows demonstrate this observation. The place of cows in the food-chain has meant that humans have almost had to render their life-cycle and deeply social natures invisible in order to consume them. However through the use of a microphone their lives are brought into the foreground.
The first clip records a solitary cow as it quietly grazes its way through a paddock of lush grass. The second clip captures the moment when a herd of cows stampede down a gully.
