Byron Bay is a small beach town facing a struggle between its old hippy ways and an influx of “new money”. Each evening the sunset is celebrated by a regular crew of drummers. They stand in stark contrast to the commercial centre of the town just a few hundred metres away. With the increasing homogeneity of urban environments it’s reassuring to listen to the individual signature sound of this town. These two clips were recorded on the beach, the beat of the drums carrying across the waves.
