Summer’s End – 2’01”


Summer has ended in Australia, and so too have the sounds specific to its nights.
Ironically one of the more recogniseable sounds of the Australian summer comes from an introduced species: the cane toad. The story of the cane toad is one of environmental disaster. Despite this, their slow call at night is warm and pleasant.
This clip has captured a typical summer’s night on Australia’s east coast. Cicadas and crickets, fruit bats, an approaching storm, and of course the steady purr of the cane toad.
