Social Exclusion – 1’39”

Last night the sound of cows echoed throughout the valley. As social animals they were distressed at being divided into two groups: those within and those outside the metallic confines of the stockyard. They called to each other through the night and into the morning. The group enclosed in the stockyard were later taken to market.
This short recording gives voice to the 27 million cattle who are part of the invisible production of food in Australia.

  1. Hi Magnus – yes, it is pretty heartbreaking to hear this. I think it shows an emotional side to farm animals that is usually conveniently overlooked.
I’ve noticed that we record with the same instrument.
